#BePresent this September: Attendance Awareness Month
This September, the South-Western City Schools District (SWCSD) reminds students and families of the importance of #BePresent with Attendance Awareness Month. Attendance Awareness Month is a nationwide recognition of the connection between regular school attendance and academic achievement. Research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school, and graduate from high school. Missing just two days a month places a student at risk of becoming chronically absent.
This month highlights the importance of mobilizing schools, families and community partners to promote regular attendance by developing tiered strategies and personalized interventions to reduce chronic absence. Every September serves as a reminder for all stakeholders to partner together to identify and remove barriers to daily school attendance so each student can thrive in the classroom.

Announcements:
Please see below for Arrival and Dismissal Procedures. The safety of our students are the most important part of these procedures. We need everyone to follow these rules to keep students safe.
The highlights?
HAVE YOUR STUDENT EXIT THE CAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. This might mean moving car seats or climbing over them, but it doesn't put children in harm's way, walking between cars to get to the sidewalk.
MAINTAIN ONE LINE OF TRAFFIC and do not pass stopped cars.
AVOID PARKING IN THE PARKING LOT and walking your student in. It slows down the car line and is not as safe as dropping your student off at the sidewalk.
PULL FORWARD AS FAR AS YOU CAN to allow many students to exit their cars at the same time. If you're worried about your student walking too far, just imagine them on our playground. They can do it!

Keep your Infinite Campus Parent Portal information updated to get text, phone, and email updates!
Infinite Campus (IC) is the District’s Internet-based student information system. Important features of IC are the Parent Portal and NEW Mobile App. Through the IC tools, parents are able to access their child’s information, such as class schedules, attendance, academic reports, transportation information, coursework, and put funds in their child’s food service account online. Parents can also designate how and where they wish to receive emergency communications, attendance calls, general announcement messages, and e-mail messages from teachers, the school, and the school district. New accounts need an activation key. The district will be mailing those out in August, so save the letter if you need to create a new account.
To create an IC account, please go to: https://www.swcsd.us/ParentPortalMobileApp.aspx
If you already have an IC account, please update your emergency contact information at: https://www.swcsd.us/OnlineAnnualInformationUpdate.aspx
